On October 1, 2017 Jan De Maeyer, director of KADOC, will be given emeritus status and will leave KADOC. Therefore KU Leuven invites applications for a vacant full-time academic position as Director of KADOC.

KADOC - Documentation and Research Centre for Religion, Culture and Society (1750 - present) is an interfaculty centre of KU Leuven and part of the Humanities and Social Sciences Group. The Centre is officially recognized and subsidized by the Flemish Community as a heritage centre. Its research focuses on the evolving interplay between religion, culture and society in Flanders from the second half of the 18th century in both its national and international contexts. The development of an integral perspective on heritage is also central to KADOC's mission.

The Director works under the supervision of the Scientific Committee and the Bureau. He / She is responsible for the daily management of KADOC and performs this task in cooperation with the Staff members (heads of sections). The director is expected to promote KADOC's position in the field of heritage management (collection building, access and retrieval) and to profile the Centre as a leading institution in Belgium and abroad. This includes the valorization of KADOC's patrimony, the provision of services for the general public as well as scholarly research (projects, publications,including the candidate's own contributions). The Director actively promotes interaction between the institution and the supporting faculties in the Humanities/Social Sciences Group as well as with different research units / groups of the KU Leuven.

The official administrative language at the KU Leuven is Dutch. If you do not speak Dutch (or do not speak it well) at the start of employment, KU Leuven will provide language training to enable you to participate in board meetings. Should you be asked to teach courses in Dutch or English, you will be given the opportunity to acquire the necessary knowledge of either or both languages.
