Until the end of September 2026, Takuya Miyake, architectural historian and professor at the Kyoto Institute of Technology, will be joining the architecture faculty at UAntwerp as a research fellow. His research will include analysing the archive management of the collection of the Flanders Architecture Institute (VAi).
Miyake's research focuses on methods of collaboration between universities and architectural archives for education and research. He is actively involved in archive management at the VAi, analysing methodologies for collection management and publication, and conducting case studies in Belgium and other European countries. This is being done in close collaboration with UAntwerp.
The project aims to better integrate Japanese architecture archives, such as MAKIT, into the international community and modernise them in line with international standards. This will ensure that modern and contemporary archive collections can be used optimally in education and research.
