MEANING / TRANSLATIONS: Towards a Belgian-Japanese architecture

From 30 October, the Flanders Architecture Institute will be exhibiting the work of two young architectural firms with offices in both Belgium and Japan as part of the Back from Japan theme. In MEANING / TRANSLATIONS the architects of S U G I B E R R Y and Schenk Hattori use the exhibition space and the garden of deSingel to show their work in relation to that of others.

During the opening night on 29 October the architects will discuss their work with architecture critic Koen Van Synghel.

For the second edition of Unfolding the Archives, the Flanders Architecture Institute draws on the oeuvre of Juliaan Lampens (1926-2019). Based on a selection of unique archive pieces, the exhibition offers an unprecedented insight into the architect’s working method. To accompany the exhibition, the catalogue Juliaan Lampens. 1950-1991 is being reissued. The book is supplemented by an updated biography, a foreword and new translations in both French and English. It is a unique reference work because the hand of the master is emphatically present in every facet of the publication.
