Flanders Architectural Review N°17. Building • Culture (pre-order)

The seventeenth edition of the Flanders Architectural Review takes a critical look at the culture in which we build and at the buildings that shape our culture. Building • Culture examines architecture as a constant interplay of interactions, frictions and collaborations.

The title, a nod to the concept of Baukultur , suggests a dialectic perspective on the relationship between building and culture. This seventeenth edition of the Flanders Architectural Review sheds light on the complex dynamics at work in the field of architecture through critical essays and contributions in text and images. The book spotlights eight exceptional projects, from concept and process to construction and use. In addition, 54 projects are featured in and around the essays. Together, they demonstrate the remarkable breadth of contemporary architectural production in Flanders and Brussels. Eighteen authors reflect on the opportunities, tensions and relationships between the actors, circumstances and forces that shape architecture. Texts, images and projects are interwoven in a rich book concept that encourages connections, resonances and new interpretations. As such, architecture is presented not only as a built outcome, but as a cultural process in which a range of voices, interests and ideas converge.
