School

Kathleen Mertens’ design strategy can be described as a game of consequences: the school’s existing layout was turned upside down. She removed the parallel ridge roofs from the main building and replaced them with a concrete slab. This created an artificial ‘ground’, on top of which she set eight classrooms in light, copiously glazed wooden volumes.
