PETILLON CEUPPENS ARCHITECTEN - ANTWERP

De Veerman

The large entrance gate of the old mansion provides direct access to the garden of the Veerman. This organisation strives to challenge people in the arts and to further develop and disseminate initiatives. Just about any art lover is welcome here. On the right, the architects are converting the rear building into a rehearsal room, implementing clearly recognisable modifications and building methods. The small windows appear to be ‘clicked’ into the outside wall. The roof is made up of a rhythmic pattern of red steel beams, finished with transparent corrugated sheets acting as roof lights for indirect light. A wooden wall divides the room. The large window overlooks the rugged city garden. Outside, the architects have continued the rhythmic pattern of the beams with wooden beams forming a canopy. A sturdy sliding door is visibly suspended from the outer façade.

This project was opened on the occasion of the 2019 Day of Architecture. The text is based on a contribution by Sofie Lamote.
