ZINNEKE

The Zinneke project is a pilot project for the reuse of building materials within the context of public tenders. Together with Rotor, Ouest is developing the transformation of the workshops and workspaces with the widest possible application of recycled materials. They recycle not only finishes, but also joinery, ventilation units, fire doors, etc. The architects are developing new procedures, specifications and measurements specifically for this purpose. The Mat.O.S. stock of recycled materials is given prominent access for future activities on the site. From the outset Ouest has organised the project as a co-creation process: not only between the client, Rotor and Ouest, but also in consultation with the Zinneke team, external partners, artists, etc. Using a number of ‘microsurgical’ interventions, the architects reconnected the different spaces and created a series of linked meeting places: an inner garden and terrace, an open kitchen and lunch area, an exhibition area, a sheltered patio. The lavish combination of ambiance and location has turned the project into a welcoming creative and meeting space.
