This detached house stands on a triangular site close to the road. It rises up out of the landscape like a black block. The surroundings include old farms and contemporary versions of them. In these surroundings this house is rather an odd man out.
Although both the walls and the roof are in slate, the different architectonic functions are nevertheless clearly distinguishable, and there is no association with a sculpture or monolith. The slate and windows chosen are not unusual in these architects’ work either. The qualities of the design are to be found elsewhere. In the location of the volume in the landscape, in the play with the topography and in the relationship between inside and outside, which is felt mainly on the inside.
