Future House

Although the Future House is situated on a plot adjacent to the street, it hardly stands out because of its beige brick façade. This group home appears both formidable and serene. Wim Goes architecture set to work on a number of subdivided plots around the client's existing farmhouse. Focusing on creating compact accommodation suitable for shared living, the architect experimentally explored the subdivided boundaries. The approach to the organisation of these group dwellings shows a high level of originality. The architects not only applied the pale colour palette indoors, they also used the exterior stone as an interior finish. They did not include multifunctional or communal spaces. Everything has a very specific purpose, yet users are free to do what they want here. It is an alternative form of co-housing. Future residents are not likely to be young families with noisy children. Future House is an exercise in how you can live together respecting everyone's privacy.

This project was opened on the occasion of the 2019 Day of Architecture. The text is based on a contribution by Sofie Lamote.
