The renovation and expansion of this modernist-inspired school complex is based on the flexible reuse of existing structures. A robust concrete skeleton forms the basis for impressive and multi-purpose spatial volumes. The concept combines maximum retention of the austere superstructure of the complex with a thorough and more landscaped transformation of the lower structure and ground level. The architects have positioned both schools as specific entities within one consistent and flexible whole. By accommodating the collective facilities in a central substructure, they have transformed the modernist complex into a functional and poetic entity, resulting in spatial synergy between austere modernity and interactive topography. Confusion and disorientation are replaced by readable, lucid spaces that make up the framework for a qualitative, flexible, sustainable and affordable learning environment for all age groups.
