De scholencampus ‘VZW Vrije en Techniche Scholen Sint-Niklaas en VTS3 BUSO’ wordt gekenmerkt door een veelzijdigheid aan typologieën en stijlen. Naast een doorgedreven visie voor de herinrichting van de open ruimte tot aangename groene verblijfsruimtes, was er ook nood aan een bijkomend gebouw met les- en praktijklokalen.
Het masterplan voor de scholencampus voorziet een groene verbindingsas die ingericht wordt als groene verblijfsruimtes op maat van de leerlingen. Om deze as te realiseren wordt het autoverkeer omgeleid langs de randen van de site, parallel met de Singel. Parkeren gebeurt geclusterd langsheen deze nieuwe ringweg.
Het nieuwe volume wordt centraal op de site en parallel met de Singel ingeplant zodat de groene as het gebouw flankeert. Het gebouw is functioneel onderverdeeld in een deel BUSO dat aansluit bij de bestaande school en een deel TSO. Het schoolgebouw kent een eenvoudig plan met centrale gang die aan weerszijden toelaat afsluitbare klaslokalen in te richten. Bovenin worden de overkoepelende functies ondergebracht. Deze overkoepelende verdieping zorgt voor een volumetrisch accent. Een vastgelegd structureel grid biedt de mogelijkheid om de inrichting van de klaslokalen flexibel en modulair te wijzigen.
De materiaalkeuzes en het uiterlijk van het gebouw sluiten aan bij het technische en industriële karakter van de opleidingen. Structurele elementen en technieken worden maximaal in het zicht gelaten, voor de gevelafwerking wordt een atypisch geplooide bardageplaat gebruikt en het vast en los meubilair wordt uit hout vervaardigd.

The school campus 'VZW Vrije en Techniche Scholen Sint-Niklaas en VTS3 BUSO' is characterized by a versatility of typologies and styles. In addition to a thorough vision for the redevelopment of the open space into pleasant green living spaces, there was also a need for an additional building with classrooms and practical rooms.
The master plan for the school campus provides for a green connecting axis that will be designed as green living spaces tailored to the students. To realise this axis, car traffic will be diverted along the edges of the site, parallel to the Singel. Parking is clustered along this new ring road.
The new volume will be planted centrally on the site and parallel to the Singel so that the green axis flanks the building. The building is functionally divided into a part BUSO that connects to the existing school and a part TSO. The school building has a simple plan with a central corridor that allows lockable classrooms to be set up on both sides. At the top, the overarching functions are housed. This overarching floor provides a volumetric accent. A fixed structural grid offers the possibility to change the layout of the classrooms flexibly and modularly.
The choice of materials and the appearance of the building are in line with the technical and industrial character of the courses. Structural elements and techniques are left as visible as possible, an atypical pleated bar dage plate is used for the façade finish and the fixed and loose furniture is made of wood.
