BOVENBOUW ARCHITECTUUR - ANTWERP

Containerpark Antwerpen Luchtbal

The project is part of a general concept for five container parks (Berchem, Deurne, Borgerhout, Berendrecht and Luchtbal). Bovenbouw employs the same principles for all the parks, subject to specific context related modifications. The architects conceived the new parks as recycling squares. The staff building, canopy and signage project the idea of a clearly defined space, a public space in the urban periphery of Antwerp. The container park is built into a slope. Together with the canopy, this incline emphasises the hard boundaries of the plot in relation to the street. It gives the recycling square a defined facade and creates a recognizable image for both visitors and passers-by. Upon entering the park, you first encounter the staff building which combines several public services with staff facilities and is positioned against the columns on the street side. The concrete columns are the structural basis and are continued all around to create a single structural and visual entity. The masts also delineate the spatial definition of the square. All these characteristics bear witness to the logical structure of the park.
