TANGIBLE HISTORY. The industrial past of the site was a source of inspiration during the redesign of a nineteenth-century warehouse into the City Archives of Bordeaux, France. Where once goods were stacked, there are now archive containers. The contemporary concrete boxes jut out above the reading room and render the historical documents tangibly present. A new volume with offices and an exhibition space were added perpendicular to the old warehouse, creating a publicly accessible outdoor space.
