The exceptional thing about this house is that it is not immediately clear whether the spartan finish was a question of budgetary necessity, or if it was the architect’s original intention. In any case, it at no point gives the impression of being cheap or penurious. Each floor has the air of a large open room, even though sometimes divided by partitions or cupboards. The steel supporting structure is left exposed.
