TmSN house by BLAF architecten has been rewarded the 3rdprize in the category living single-family. “With surgical precision, the least valuable parts were cut away to generate light and open space on the plot. The most valuable parts were consolidated and made empty and amenable. This “pitting” operation created a small “Hinterhof”, an ideal environment for a family home. “
Parking Building IMEC / KU Leuven by Stéphane Beel Architecten has been rewarded the 2nd prize in the category Production/Commercial. The design is a narrow and long building that opens up the Computer Science building behind it, which creates space for planting trees. The architecture has been reduced to its essence. It is an open steel structure that engages in a dialogue with its surroundings. It does not hide its function.
More about the project‘t Atelier by dmvA architecten was rewarded with the 3rd prize in the category Social Design / Participatory Architecture. ‘t Atelier is a social enterprise and consists of a bicycle repair shop and a wood workshop. As the new building is located at the entrance of the busy inner area, dmvA made a design that not only engages in a dialogue with the public passage but also visually connects with the facades of the neighboring houses in the street. The base of the building is a concrete structure of columns and floor slabs, based on the Dom-Ino house of Le Corbusier.
