The car park building, designed by Stéphane Beel Architects, acts as a link between IMEC and KUL and an important intersection for both institutions. It replaces parking spaces at ground level with stacked parking spaces, thus reducing the amount of land required. The architects have kept the architecture to a minimum without masking the purpose of the building, creating a link between the open steel structure and its surroundings. The ramps, which are clearly visible in the façade, run across three equal sections between the horizontal planes that connect to the parking levels. This gives the 142-metre long facade along Kapeldreef an expressive and dynamic character. The span of the ramps, based on HEB800 profiles, also acts as a finish for the facade at the top ends of the building. The floor slabs are constructed from profiled steel-reinforced concrete floors that are visible from below. On the higher levels of the car park, the crests of the surrounding trees act as a backdrop to the parking facilities.
