How do shared spaces influence the way we live? In autumn 2024, De Singel and the Flanders Architecture Institute (VAi) present a programme that examines the different facets of cohabitation and living together. In De Singel’s exhibition space, Dogma’s architects examine the potential of ‘the urban villa’ as a cooperative housing model. graft redefines the relationship between Flemish housing culture and landscape planning with their Table Setting. Masterpieces from the VAi collection shed light on the historic KMSKA building and the urban planning ideals that Antwerp’s Zuidwijk shared with other 19th-century European cities. And our family Sundays explore alternative and sustainable forms of living.
In short, a wealth of activities to fill your cultural diary!
INSTALLATION
The young design studio graft presents its work on the forecourt of DE SINGEL in Antwerp in Table Setting #11. Architects Thomas Faes and Marie van Kerckhoven are the team behind graft. In addition to their own firm, they work, respectively, at Marie-José van Hee architecten and Bovenbouw Architectuur. Their fledgling oeuvre testifies to a critical attitude towards Flemish housing culture, with a particular focus on the relationship with the landscape.

The Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA) celebrated its reopening in 2022 after a lengthy period of restoration and expansion. But how was this 19th-century building created?
