Rheinland - Flanders: regional architectrue today? Over the last decade architecture has played a pivotal role in the transformation of Flanders as an European region, contributing to a narrative of cultural and social change. An architecture that is highly idiosyncratic and which, at the same time, reflects the conditions from which it has emerged. Can architects in another European region learn from these experiences? And what kind of dialogues will be productive for the Rhineland and its patchwork of cultural identities and economic realities? German architects Anne-Julchen Bernhardt and Ulrich Königs will discuss these topics with Flemish architects Geert Driesen from AWG Architects and noAarchitecten. Wim van den Bergh, architect and professor at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule and Christoph grafe, director at the Flemish Architecture Institute and chief editor of the Architectural Review Flanders will complete the debate. An architecture salon in collaboration with Architkturforum Rheinland.
"Architectural Review Flanders N° 10: Radical Commonplaces – European Architectures from Flanders" makes a Grand Tour through Flemish and European cities. At distinct locations authors of the Architectural Review Flanders lounge with guest speakers and search on the dialogue between Flemish architecture and local and/or European architectural themes through reflection and debate. On Friday 19 October, an architecture salon will take place in Köln, at the Belgisches Haus.
