Marc Dubois (°1950) krijgt de RIBA International Honorary Fellows 2021 onderscheiding. De plechtige overhandiging zal gebeuren in Londen in 2021.
"Marc Dubois is an eminent critic and lecturer on architecture in Belgium. Having written for most of the leading architectural journals in Europe during his career, he is an influential figure on the international architecture scene. Marc's focus has always been outward-looking, promoting the unique values of contemporary Flemish architecture. He is credited for helping to create the conditions that enabled many famous architecture practices of today to grow and flourish. His tireless international networking, promotion, documentation and critical reflection has transformed and re-positioned the country’s architecture."
Architect and Professor at the Faculty of Architecture KULeuven (Ghent & Brussels) from 1979 to 2015. Co-founder with Christian Kieckens and chairman of Stichting Architektuur Museum (1983-1992) in Ghent. Commissioner of the exhibition “Architects from Flanders” for the Architecture Biennale of Venice (1991) and in Barcelona (1997). Coinitiator of the first Flanders Architectural Yearbook in 1993. Advisor for the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion Award Barcelona (from 1992 to 2020). Commissioner for the International Biennale Interieur in 1996 and 1998 in Kortrijk. Since 2015, president of DOCOMOMO Belgium. Received the ULTIMA Architecture Prize from the Flemish Government in 2018. Organized different lectures about architecture in Belgium in several European cities, schools and institutions. Since 1996, correspondent for the Italian magazine CASABELLA. Author of “Belgio Architettura gli ultimi vent'anni” (Electa 1993). In the 1990s, architecture reviewer for KNACK weekly. Author of many articles in Belgian and international reviews. Author of books about the work of Albert van Huffel, Philippe Samyn, Álvaro Siza, Bart Lens, Vincent Van Duysen and others. Curator of an exhibition in 2019 about the reconstruction “Ostend 1944-1958”. Author of the recent monograph “Gaston Eysselinck 1907-1953 / In the footprints of Le Corbusier”.
Meer over Marc DuboisDe RIBA / Royal Institute of British Architects in Londen is één van de oudste en prestigieuze architectenvereniging van Europa (1834). Sinds 1848 wordt een oeuvreprijs, de “Royal Gold Medal” toegekend door het Britse staatshoofd, op voordracht van de RIBA. Sinds 2006 geeft de RIBA elk jaar ook een aantal erkenningen aan personen die een belangrijke bijdrage leveren om design en architectuur een grotere maatschappelijke uitstraling te geven. In het verleden kregen fotografen, curatoren, auteurs en architectuurcritici deze onderscheiding. De plechtige overhandiging zal gebeuren in Londen in 2021.
