This call for papers is centered around one main question: How to generate sustainability concepts from an architectural perspective? We invite papers that demonstrate critical thinking and reflection on the evolving sustainability discourses in relation to architectural design thinking, and develop a specific position on sustainability.
Thematic strands
The papers should address / fit-in or cover explicitly one or more of the following thematic strands:
1. Architectural (re)interpretation(s) of the 3 sustainability pillars (social, economic & environmental)
2. Historical-critical reviews of green consciousness in architecture-culture
3. An appraisal of contemporary sustainable design practices
4. Reviewing critical perspectives in the bioclimatic design, energy and performance discourses
5. Rethinking the role/position of LCA (Life Cycle Analysis) & sustainability assessment frameworks (LEED, BREEAM, etc.) in architectural design
6. Reconciling architectural expression (form-making, aesthetics) & sustainability performance (operation)
7. Interdisciplinary theoretical explorations of the intersection between design, technology and nature discourses
8. Explorative papers on sustainability through research by design
Abstract submission
In your abstract, please provide a title, and clearly mention 1 or more of the above-mentioned 8 strands your paper aims to address. Abstract should be no more than 300 words. Please include the author[s] full name, affiliation, and e-mailaddress on a separate page. Abstracts should be sent before 10 May 2013 via email to: ahmed.khanmahsud@luca-arts.be
