Following the launch of the Flanders Architectural Review N°15, De Volkskrant (NL) focuses on school architecture in Flanders. Journalist Kirsten Hannema states that Dutch policy makers can learn a lot from the Flemish approach.
In her piece, Kirsten Hannema is full of praise for how new schools are built in Flanders and how the Netherlands can learn from this: "The biggest difference with the Netherlands is that Flemish public 'builders', such as municipalities and school boards, organize the commissioning themselves, assisted by city architects and experts from the Autonoom Gemeentebedrijf Stedelijk Onderwijs. An approach that is in contrast to the school projects in the Netherlands, which are almost always outsourced to consultancy firms."
