Call for Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSM) for COST Action IS0904 'European architecture beyond Europe'

COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is one of the longest-running European instruments supporting cooperation among scientists and researchers across Europe. From 2011-2014 COST financially supports the action 'European architecture beyond Europe'.

The aim of this action is to produce a broader understanding of the worldwide spread of European architecture across empires during the nineteenth and twentieth century by focusing on its vectors, connections, semantics and materiality in a large range of geographic and linguistic contexts engaging both Western and non-Western environments. The challenge of 'European architecture beyond Europe' is to contribute to the writing of a global history of modern European culture, including overseas expansions and transnational dynamics in its scope.

Within the framework of COST and 'European architecture beyond Europe' there is a possibility for particularly (yet not exclusively) young scientists to apply for the funding of costs related to travel and subsistence for a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM). See: www.cost.eu/about_cost/cost_stories/Short-Term-Scientific-Missions

A STSM (min. 1 week i.e. 5 working days, max. 3 months) is aimed at strengthen the existing networks by allowing scientists to go to an institution or laboratory in another COST member state to foster collaboration, to learn new techniques or use instruments and/or methods not available in their own institution/laboratory.

'European architecture beyond Europe' welcomes proposals that enhance collaborative research within the network and activities that contribute to research on one of the topics of the Action's thematic working groups. See: www.architecturebeyond.eu/category/working-groups/
