This exhibition is a contemporary re-appropriation of Le Corbusier’s Voyage d’Orient from 1911. It draws on conversations with local architects, artists, urbanists and activists in Athens, Belgrade, Istanbul, Rome and Vienna. This voyage, however, is not a historical reconstruction that aims at re-mapping what Le Corbusier actually saw, drew, photographed or described. Rather, Le Corbusier as a person provides the starting point for conversations with local experts about the distinctly different traditions of recalling Le Corbusier's visit in 1911. This exchange expands into specific issues related to urban space such as monumentality, architecture without architects, and the way we inhabit and navigate urban space today. This contemporary Voyage is informed by this sharing of knowledge, which led to extensive walks in these cities and will result in a photo and text based installation.
