Universiteit Antwerpen zoekt 'doctoral scholarship holder in the field of Built Heritage Studies'
The Department of Heritage in the Faculty of Design Sciences is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of Built Heritage Studies.
Position
You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in the field of built heritage, and in specific, industrial heritage. The PhD project aims to fill the gap in research by studying the role of patronage/management in life cycle of industrial sites facing neglect through deindustrialization and those that are adapted to new uses. It responds to the following research questions: What kind of management models prevail in the life-cycle of industrial sites in different geographies and what is the impact of each model on the sustainable adaptive reuse? In the life cycle of an industrial site, what is the frequency of changes in the management structure, are there temporal commonalities that could lead to a pattern of transformation? Depending on the different types of management, who is excluded from the current heritage narratives? What kind of conflicts these omissions create? Whether these narratives find a means to surface in interpretations and scenography in the adaptive reuse?
You develop scientific knowledge that has the potential to be translated into strategic insight and/or guidelines for management of industrial heritage.
You will collaborate with colleagues within the Built Heritage group of Antwerp Cultural Heritage Sciences (ARCHES) and the H2020 CONSIDER Project.
You will publish scientific articles related to the research project both independently and with your promotor Prof.dr. Yonca Erkan.
You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for ARCHES (Antwerp Cultural Heritage Sciences) Research Group.
