The 19th-century design by Friedrich Eduard Keilig (1827-1895) for a new city park wants to encourage people to take a stroll. The result is a compact rotating movement around the central pond, interspersed with height differences and perspectives. A varied collection of trees creates the illusion of a landscape beyond the boundaries of the city. BULK Architects wanted to introduce a suitable pavilion into this crucial, emotionally charged spot. The integration with the existing landscape, the location on an artificial hill and the combination of a daytime restaurant, a night club and the urban Parks Department, contribute to the eccentric appeal of the building. Sited among the range of events taking place in the park, Café Capital has been designed with the spirit of Keilig in mind. The result is a fitting building, based on a clear and efficient shape. The round pavilion intermediates between a practical building and the organically designed park.
