DELMULLE DELMULLE ARCHITECTEN - MERELBEKE

Opnamestudio met woning Studio Regie

A rather unusual façade on Hundelgem-sesteenweg in Merelbeke attracts the attention. It conceals an old village cinema that Delmulle Delmulle Architects have converted into Studio Regie, a recording studio with a home attached. This new programme was fitted into the original building like a three-dimensional puzzle, leaving it as intact as possible.

The most spectacular change was applied to the stage tower, where the family lives. Two ingenious alterations made it possible to live on the former stage: an enclosed staircase with bedrooms above and a window that is positioned with the utmost precision. These two architectural elements are extremely effective. Because the window runs down below the existing floor of the stage, daylight enters the former cellar, which thereby becomes a fully-fledged living space. The three bedrooms and the bathroom were designed as a wooden box that hangs in the existing stage tower.
