In the offices WIT architects designed and had built for themselves in Mechelsestraat in Leuven, the programme, context, structure and expression all culminate in an exemplary architectonic synthesis. The starting point was a virtually impossible site.
The virtue of this architecture is the subtle balance between mass and space, dark and light, solid Mediterranean-looking construction and the lightness of Scandinavian wood.
The generous rooms in a tightly directed play of chiaroscuro, the tempered yet at the same time abundant contact between the street and the natural surroundings, the unlaboured yet opulent collage of materials that articulates the space and creates complex resonances: all this ripples through into the still, abstract geometric façade.
