In 2007, the local authority decided to buy the convent and use it as a town hall. The intention was to reinforce the existing centre while also giving the listed monument a new lease of life.
The architects describe the new building as a barn. It has a wooden structure with an outer envelope in stone. The fine detailing, the well-thought-out proportions, the projecting roofs and the clearly defined window openings make this ‘barn’ feel extremely warm and homely.
The project reinforces not only the function and appearance of the central market square, but also creates a unique, semi-public meeting place within the wings.
