AG Vespa strives to bring a new identity to residual plots in the fragile urban fabric, one that reflects on their surroundings. As part of its urban land and building policy, AG Vespa buys dilapidated buildings in deprived neighbourhoods.
On the corner of Statielei and De Laetstraat, on the site of a disused petrol station, De Gouden Liniaal Architects arranged three fully-fledged family homes and a collective space within a compact outline. In so doing, they demonstrate that collectivity can even be achieved on corner plots. The architects understood the possibilities of this corner location very well: their building makes full use of the available height, while the corner also offers extra experiential value to the living areas within. Each home has a large outdoor space. One of them provides a cut out on the corner and accentuates the corner location. In this way, the architects introduce this project into the aforementioned tradition of interwar corner projects, which use the specific nature of the angular situation to the advantage of the city and the interior.
