This residential project is located in the historic centre of Ghent, where an L-shaped building is enclosed by a large community garden, which used to be a car park but is now used as a meeting place for local residents. The existing building was divided into three separate dwellings, each with an enclosed private garden. The exterior is based on a homogenous design and the original industrial elements were preserved where possible. Large glass windows highlight the roughness of the masonry and in some areas a secondary structure has been incorporated into the old structure. Old and new are in constant dialogue. Inside the houses the different spaces are all interconnected, both vertically and horizontally. Scale, light, height and perspective are united by the materials and structure.
This project was opened on the occasion of the 2017 Day of Architecture.
