The Cosmopolitan is the result of the redevelopment of an existing office tower and a smaller building into a mixed-use project at the heart of the city. The project houses 151 residential units and is a typical example of the upgrading of modernist architecture. It highlights the potential of renovating and transforming a building into a project that accommodates both functional and aesthetic issues. The balanced blend of commercial and residential functions emphasises the urban character and reinforces the existing potential of the site. The transformation of the building was achieved by separating the shell of the 2 side walls. The introduction of double-height V-shaped colonnades along the houses on the ground floor emphasizes the linear character of the existing structure and the transparency of the site. The galleries provide covered passages to the entrances of the various facilities. Both the east and west facades of these galleries are equipped with spacious balconies. Mobile perforated awnings protect against sun and wind and create an elegant and changing interplay of vistas and transparency.
