Designed by GAFPA, the house is based on a primary concrete structure reflecting its own logic. The materials are sober and refined, the element of luxury lies in the contrast between high and low spaces, direct and indirect visual relationships. The architects kept any signs of building visible, resulting in a layered build-up of the overall structure. The facade consists of a grass matrix interwoven with steel fins (a claustra), stacked up to a storey-high perforated wall, creating an eye-catching urban presence. The actual house stands back from the street and has a spacious covered entrance area. Its public-private character creates an interface with the city. The light inside has a unique character creating an intimate atmosphere. The residents, a Brazilian family, have taken over the house and introduced a warm ambiance full of colour and life - just as raw, unpolished and poetic as the structure they occupy. The open space overcomes the traditional division between day and night, creating one large open living space.
