The residential building De Boeg houses 20 apartments for senior citizens and people with reduced mobility. Korth Tielens Architects opted for a trapeze shape for the building, due to considerations relating to context, sustainability and in particular residential comfort. Because of the sloping wall edges, the building stands apart from its neighbours, creating additional sightlines along it. The wide south-facing living area facade and the compact, more enclosed north facade with staircase and sleeping quarters are extremely energy efficient. As a result, the dwellings also have wide living rooms with large south facing balconies. The building has a robust feel due to the washed concrete structure filled with brickwork and windows. All materials and colours are coordinated in green-grey shades. The building is a good example of architecture in which the shape of the building contributes to its energetic and urban qualities.
