Within the volume of a narrow nineteenth-century mansion — a narrow plot between high party walls — the designers devised two dwellings entangled in a close embrace: a ‘high front house’ and a ‘low rear house’.
The high front house and the low rear house can together be seen as a double house temporarily divided into two fully-fledged dwellings, or as two stacked dwellings that can be easily combined to form a double house; a LAT (living apart together) relationship that creates opportunities with regards to sustainable adaptability.
