Stalhillebrug

With his bridge in Stalhille, the engineer and designer Laurent Ney proves that the assignment gains in value if it arises out of an intent reading of the context, deriving meaning from it and, if possible, also projecting meaning onto it. As long as the purpose of the construction is not merely to display its own elegance or the brilliance of the engineering work.
Although the form itself is unprecedented, in this delicate situation it by no means appears alien. In a very natural way, the bridge takes up a central position between the surrounding buildings and reveals the logic of their existence. The familiar form, with its flat road surface and counterweights on pillars extending into the air, does not condemn the surrounding buildings to the status of archaic relics, but, on the contrary, gently lifts them into the future: not a brusque confrontation between old and new, but a harmonious combination that does not lead to fossilisation either.
